NASW will again host an Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy in 2011. The Academy will give students an overview of the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills while exploring real world careers in the aviation industry.

In 2010, students took actual airplane rides, toured an FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, saw a live demonstration of the FAA’s High Performance Research Vehicle, and much more! The camp also included fly-ins and subsequent career overviews from the US Navy, US Army, NJ State Police, and Atlanticare Medivac. 2011′s ACE Academy will include many of the same features and more!

The Academy will run from June 27th to July 1st in 2011. Contact Bruce Fournier (bruce-nasw@comcast.net or 609-886-8787) to register any middle or high school student, or for more information.

The Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum in Rio Grande, NJ, boasts an impressive collection of some 19 classic flying machines in its historic 1943 hangar. There’s the Boeing-Stearman PT-17 Kaydet, one of the most widely used basic trainers during World War II.

Also, housed in the museum’s 92,000 square-foot, all-wooden hangar is the “Huey” helicopter, which first appeared during the Vietnam War. Perhaps, the museum’s most prized possession is the TBM-3E Avenger, a World War II torpedo bomber — one of just seven aircraft in the country to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
